Brittany Lincicome\'s victory at last weekend\'s Ginn Open has earned her a place in the season-ending ADT Championship through the LPGA Playoffs 2007.
The second LPGA Tour player to secure a spot in the event, Lincicome started the final round at Florida\'s Ginn Reunion Resort four shots back but finished with an even-par 72 Sunday to clinch the victory, her second on the LPGA Tour.
\"The ADT Championship was a fun tournament last year, so it\'s fun to be in so early,\" Lincicome, who qualified for last year\'s tournament by winning the HSBC Women\'s World Match Play Championship, said in a press release. \"I\'m looking forward to returning to Trump International Golf Club because it is such a beautiful course.\"
With a purse of $2.6 million, the Ginn Open is one of 10 Winner events on the 2007 LPGA Tour schedule. A Winner event is an LPGA Tour tournament with a purse of at least $2 million. The winner of each gets a spot in the 2007 ADT Championship.
Lincicome, the 21-year-old golfer from Seminole, Fla., is joined by Morgan Pressel, who at 18 years, 10 months and nine days-old became the youngest player in tour history to win a major when she outplayed the field at the Kraft Nabisco Championship two weeks ago. The win solidified her place in the field of the 2007 ADT Championship.
The tournament, held Nov. 16-19 at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., is the culminating event of the LPGA Playoffs 2007, a yearlong competition that splits the season into halves.
Fifteen players from each half qualify for the ADT Championship using a performance-based points system throughout the year. Two wildcards will be handed out after The Mitchell Company LPGA Tournament of Champions, and 10 spots are given to Winner event champions. The remaining spots will be given to the ADT Points qualifiers who are not otherwise qualified.
This year\'s event has a $1,550,000 purse, with the winner earning $1 million, the largest first-place prize in the history of women\'s golf. The 2007 ADT Championship will also have three days of playoffs, with a cut after 36 holes. Players start with a fresh scorecard for the third round, which ends with another cut to the top-eight players. A final-day shoot-out with the remaining players will have them again starting with a fresh scorecard for a chance at the $1 million winner\'s check.
